Mustang High School Student Artwork Named Best of Show
(Mustang, Oklahoma – July 23, 2020) – Recently, the Oklahoma History Center, located at 800 Nazih Zuhdi Dr, Oklahoma City, OK 73105, hosted the 2020 Oklahoma State Arts Exhibition, and a work created by incoming Mustang High School (MHS) sophomore Joanna “Joey” Rivera, received the 2020 Superintendent's Choice Best of Show award.
“Joey created a Pointillism piece by using markers,” said MHS Art Teacher Sarah Carnes. “It has been a pleasure watching her create and her talent grow throughout this last school year. There is great joy and pleasure to see students, parents, grandparents, and Artist Educators travel across the state to be at this 'masked' Recognition Reception.”
The reception featured refreshments “served in a COVID friendly manner,” recognized all students, teachers and special guests in attendance, and provided each student the opportunity to be pictured with their artwork. The art remained on display through Friday, July 17, and the Oklahoma State Fair creative team is also in talks with other galleries about exhibiting the art in the future, said OKC Fairgrounds Senior Manager Creative Programs Nancy Nortz.
“Thank you to all the OAEA members that participate in this show annually, as well as, all Artist Educators that submit high quality work. You are pillars of creativity in your communities,” Carnes said.
